Bringing Cookie Cafe to Alumni Serving Overseas
Hello Parents,
Martha McCann, a long-time weekly volunteer at Cookie Café has come up with an outstanding idea. To reach out to KP alumni who are currently deployed overseas and send them appreciation from their Alma Mater.
If you have contact information for any deployed KP Alumni, please send it to: deployed@kpcookiecafe.com.
Name of Service Member, Rank and Unit
Deployment address - APO or FPO
Approximate date when the deployment is ending
We really hope to be able to have the name of someone we can honor by this Thursday so we can start the program at the first Cookie Café.

Legislative Action Alert
Dear NNEPA Parents:
Over the last few days I have had hundreds of e-mails and phone calls asking for direction on what we can do to resolve the issues at Kings Point. I know my fellow alumni leaders have experienced the same responses. I will tell you what we know at this point:
- Absolutely, positively, Kings Point is NOT closing! Please do everything in your power to stop this rumor and reassure you midshipmen that this is not an option. I have received several e-mails today from mids on seaduty who do not have access to the websites and all of them have asked if it is true the Academy is closing. NO, IT IS NOT! Most of all, reassure ALL your midshipmen that their job is to study and graduate. We will handle the rest of this situation.
- All the USMMA Alumni Organizations AND the USMMA Parents are working in complete collaboration. We are truly speaking with one voice and we are being heard in Washington. Alumni are joining us in the efforts listed and in others.
- DOT Secretary Ray LaHood has scheduled a meeting with USMMA Alumi leaders for next Tuesday. We should have a complete plan of action immediately after that meeting. Mr. LaHood has announced today that he will be leaving office in Jan. 2013. This should not impact any decisions at this point.
- What YOU can do IMMEDIATELY: CONTACT ALL YOUR STATE CONGRESSMEN AND SENATORS! Tell all your friends and relatives to do the same. Attached to this e-mail are contact information and directions, a condensed, updated list of important issues, and a new concise sample letter to your legislator.
- IMMEDIATELY LET DOT AND MARAD KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS VIA E-MAIL: Be brief, polite and concise, but firm. Identify yourself and how you feel about Kings Point. And remember that YOU pay their salaries.
Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Mr. Ray LaHood:;
Deputy DOT Secretary: John Porcari: ;
Maritime Administrator: David Matsuda: ;
- CALL DIRECTLY TO THE WHITE HOUSE PUBLIC LINES NOW: Again, be concise, polite, and firm, as you tell them your opinion on Kings Point. The phone numbers are: 202-456-1111; or the main switchboard is: 202-456-1414. Let them hear our voices.
- PLANS ARE UNDERWAY TO COMPLETE A WHITE HOUSE PETITION DRIVE: There is an actual process for this. We will need to get at least 25,000 signatures. We should more information on this process next week.
Thank you to all of you who are concerned and ready to take action to support Kings Point and our regiment of midshipmen. We will weather this storm and be stronger at the outcome. Thank you for your help!

MIDSHIPMEN ARE COMING... MIDSHIPMEN ARE COMING!
The Textile River Regatta on October 2, 2011 the first true test of each crew teams speed as the fall racing gets more intense and everyone prepares for the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta. It is held on the Merrimack in Lowell, MA. Kings Point has participated in this every year. As a parents organization we go down and set up a awning socialize with Midshipmen visiting New England. We usually spend the day and bring treats from fresh apples, carmel apples, and apple cider. No matter what it is they appreciate the tastes from home (even if it is not there own home). They have finals at the end of the month so a special treat when they are studying between heats is always appreciated. We are looking for a representative from NNEPA to attend -- please let us know if you can and we will help you coordinate.
Support our Football Team when KP takes on WPI with kick off at 4:00 PM on October 8, 2011. We handily beat them last year with a score of 26 to 9. As a parents organization we go down and set up a awning socialize with Midshipmen visiting New England. We usually spend the day and bring treats from fresh apples, carmel apples, and apple cider. No matter what it is they appreciate the tastes from home (even if it is not there own home). A big event for our Midshipmen comes October 22-23, 2011 at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. We have medaled in this event and usually do well against Navy, Harvard and Yale.
