The US Open Golf Tournament 2009 will be held at Bethpage State Park from June 18 – 21, and because of that, some hotels will be charging at least $300 per night for a room and are starting to book rooms now.

Northern New England Parents Association of U.S. Merchant Marine Academy - Kings Point

The Mission of USMMA Northern New England Parents Association is to promote and support the Academy, its goals, programs and objectives, its Regiment of Midshipmen, faculty, staff and alumni.

We serve as a support organization for Candidates, Plebe Candidates, Plebes, and all Midshipmen and their families during their years at the Academy.

The primary focus of support will be upon those Midshipmen and families from the Northern New England area.

Licensing is well underway for all our First Classmen and is due to conclude on Friday with the Bell Ringing.

Four of our Midshipmen took their first set of licensing exams in March - Keegan Doig, Meghan Fahey, Christopher Lancaster and Jaquie Peterson completed and Passed their Qualified Member of the Engine Department License Exams.

Fair winds and Following Seas to the 2010 "B" Splits as they head out for their Second and Final Sea Term. Be Safe, Experience cultures you may only have dreamed about and apply what you have learned. Keep us posted on your adventures. Any journal entries can be sent to us and they will be posted here.

New England Midshipmen Rock!

QMED Licensing was administered the week before Easter to all those Midshipmen who are Marine Operations and Technology Majors. The results are in and EVERY NEW ENGLAND MIDSHIPMAN PASSED QMED with no retakes. Each of these Midshipmen are now Qualified Members of the Engine Department. They will be eligible to sit for their Third Assistant Engineer License after completing a specific number of Sea Days. Our Congratulations go out to:

USMMA ACADEMY ALERT SYSTEM FOR PARENTS

The United States Merchant Marine Academy has established a cell phone and email alert system for parents to inform you of any developing campus emergencies.

This system will supplement a separate on-campus system for midshipmen, faculty and staff.

NEXT PARENTS ASSOCIATION MEETING
Please make suggestion as to where we should hold it. This is the nomination meeting for next years officers.

Thank You to Linda Flynn for again taking on the challenge of organizing the goodie boxes for our Midshipman. It is an arduous task and we really appreciate her coordination effort and all those who stepped forward to help. Boxes should arrive at the Academy the week of February 15.
