Congratulations Class of 2008!

Midshipman Mark G. Burns came to the Academy from Morgantown, West Virginia and is now from Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He will graduate with his Bachelors of Science in Marine Transportation and plans on Sailing as a Third Mate after Graduation. While at the Academy he held the both the CNO/CITO for First Company. Mark served his internship at CTLT 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC and at the NYPD Counter-Terrorism Division. On his sea years he shipped out on the S/S Cleveland, APL Korea, Horizon Fairbanks, Horizon Hawaii, Cape Inscription, Cape Texas and Cape Isabella and visited ports in Alaska, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Congo, Africa, Puerto Rico, the West Coast US and the East Coast of the US.

Midshipman Keegan Doig hails from Cape Cod, Massachusetts and will graduate from the Ships Officer Program with a Bachelors of Science in Marine Operations and Technology. He was a member of the Dinghy Sailing Team and participated in Windsurfing and Kitesurfing Clubs. He served as the Windsurfing Club president. His sea years were spent on the S/S Enterprise, the M/V Lawrence H. Gianella and M/V Green Lake visiting such varied ports as Antarctica, as part of Operation Deep Freeze), Australia, Africa, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Spain, Diego Garcia, Panama, Guam, Hawaii, Japan, China, Taiwan and the East, West and Gulf of the United States. He did an Internship with Raytheon at the Maritime Mission Center in Portsmouth, Rhode Island and after Graduation has accepted a position with the towing and transportation company, Otto Candies, LLC.

Midshipman Meagan Fahey is from Plymouth, MA and will graduate from the Ships Officer Program with a Bachelors of Science in Marine Operations and Technology. Earning qold stars for both first and second trimesters her senior year were well earned accomplishments. She was a member of the Varsity Crew Team for her four years at Kings Point and served as the Crew Captain for two years. She was an active member of the Marching Band and served as the Band Company Human Relations Officer as well as the Second Deck Platoon Commander. She was also active in the USCG Club. Her sea years were spent on the M/V Virginian, where earned ribbons for carrying ammunition to our soldiers and transporting through dangerous waters. She also sailed on the USNS Kanawha, and the USNS Lawrence H. Gianella where she visited ports in Spain, Greece, Germany, Fujairah, Kuwait, Qatar, and Puerto Rico. She spent her Internship at Kings Point participating in Officer Training. Upon Graduation she plans on sailing as a Qualified Member of the Engine Department until she can sit for her Third Assistant Engineers License and then continue sailing as a Engineering Officer.

Midshipman Christopher Lancaster hails from Barnstable, Massachusetts will receive his Bachelors of Science degree in Marine Operations and Technology. While at Kings point he participated in Hockey and Power Squadron. He spent his sea years on Sealand Performance, APL Philippines, Seabulk Mariner and Horizon Hawaii visiting ports in Puerto Rico, China, Japan, Alaska, Germany, Spain, Italy, England, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, California, Texas, Florida, South Carolina, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii. Christopher spent his Internship with the Steamship Authority out of Woods Hole, Massachusetts. After Graduation he plans to spend some time with his family (his son Brandon is now 3!) before setting sail as a Third Mate. He plans to eventually sail as a Qualified Member of the Engine Department so he can sit for his Third Assistant Engineer license.

Midshipman Daniel Lancaster hails from Barnstable, Massachusetts will earn his Bachelors of Science Degree in Marine Engineering Systems and plans to earn his Chief Engineer with a career in the Maritime Industry. While at Kings Point he played Rugby and Hockey and was active at the Waterfront as a member of the Power Squadron. Daniel spent his sea years on the M/V Liberty Glory, S/S Meteor, S/S Chemical Pioneer, M/V Sealand Quality, S/S Cape Inscription, M/V Virginian and the S/S Horizon Hawaii where he made ports in Nigeria, Italy, Spain, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Crete, Qutar, Kuwait, Puerto Rico and the East and West Coast of the United States. He interned at the Steamship Authority in Woods Hole, Massachusetts and at American Ship Repair in Brooklyn, NY.

Midshipman Shamus O’Shea arrived at the Academy from Gardner, Massachusetts. He followed his older brother who was already at Kings Point (Padric ’06). Shamus is a Logistics and Intermodal Transportation major and was the President of his Class for ’06-’07. While at Kings Point he was a member of the Golf Team and served as its Captain from 2006-2008. He served as editor of “Hear This” from 2004-2008. He spent his sea years on the M/V President Truman, M/V Liberty Eagle, M/V Alliance New York and M/V Lihue visiting ports in Hawaii and the Pacific, Singapore and the Far East, Dubai and the Middle East, Hamburg and Europe. After Graduation he plans to Sail Deep Sea for MEBA.

Midshipman Jaquelyn Peterson came to USMMA from Merrimack, NH where she is the second of eight children. As a member of the Ships Officer program she will graduate with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Marine Operations and Technology with a concentration in Leadership and Ethics. Jaquelyn was a member of the Varsity Swimming and Diving team for four years and in 2008 was named the Landmark Conference Diver of the Year after placing first in both 3 Meter and 1 Meter Springboard at the Landmark Championships. As a junior she was named All Skyline after winning the 1 Meter diving event at the Skyline Conference Championships and placing second in the 3 Meter diving event. She garnered All-Metropolitan First Team honors and finished third overall in the 3 meter and 1 meter diving events at the Metropolitan Championships. While at Kings Point she was active on the waterfront and served as the Skipper of the T/V Liberator, the Regimental Chief Mate Kings Pointer and the Regimental Master Petty Officer Kings Pointer as well as the Fourth Company Human Relations Petty Officer. Her sea years were spent on the M/V Green Lake, the USNS Samuel L. Cobb and M/V Advantage where she visited ports in California, Japan, Oregon, Panama, Texas, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina, Yemen, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Singapore. She also participated in Scuba, Offshore Sailing, Rotoract, Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the restoration of the S/S Resolute. She spent her Internship in Hampton Roads, VA with McAllister Towing and Transportation of VA. After Graduation she plans on Sailing full time and eventually leading to a Master Mariner classification. During her vacation time she plans on attending immersion language schools in France and China. Her plans also include enhancing her maritime education by enrolling in a Masters program in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering.
